Radar will help track drug planes
Sandusky Register – Life is about to become harder for drug smugglers trying to fly dope from Canada into the U.S.
The Department of Homeland Security is stepping up efforts to use sophisticated radar to catch low-flying aircraft transporting drugs from Canada, said U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.
Brown said the agency will be using “military-grade” radar technology, starting in November.
Brown said the new radar program builds on the success of Operation Outlook, a pilot program from 2005 to 2008 that used radar near the border in the Spokane, Wash., area.
