Sen. Brown celebrates Navistar recovery
News-Sun – Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) on Thursday visited employees at the Springfield Navistar plant to celebrate the facility’s recent increase in production and recalling laid off workers.
Brown addressed about 100 employees, company management, union officials, as well as area elected and business officials. He congratulated company and union representatives for working together to turn around the plant, which was temporarily idled last year, and for recalling nearly 200 laid off workers.
In December, Brown called on the Illinois-based truck maker to maximize production levels at the Springfield plant and recall some of the 250 employees who were laid off in October.
The plant has since doubled its production schedule due to promising trucking industry demand, plant General Manager Jim Rumpf told the senator in a welcoming address.
