Sen. Sherrod Brown pushes for trade enforcement

Dayton Business Journal – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-OH, continues to make a case for stronger trade enforcement.

On Thursday, Brown testified before a Senate Finance Subcommittee on International Trade, saying new legislation is needed to ensure consistent enforcement of trade remedy laws.

“I want to note that this hearing is particularly timely as our trade enforcement laws are under attack at the World Trade Organization,” Brown said.

Earlier this spring, a WTO appellate body reversed a prior WTO ruling that had upheld the use of trade remedy laws against China.

“We know that our antidumping and countervailing duty laws work,” Brown said. “They level the playing field and allow employers to retain and create jobs.”
