Sen. Sherrod Brown pushing for infrastructure bank

Coshocton Tribune – Ohio’s Democratic U.S. senator said creating jobs and promoting investment by companies through infrastructure improvement is key to easing the nation’s economic problems.

Sen. Sherrod Brown on Tuesday promoted legislation to create an “infrastructure bank” to help finance projects such as the overhaul of the Brent Spence Bridge, which carries interstate highway traffic over the Ohio River. The bank would provide loans and loan guarantees while leveraging private sources for projects of regional and national importance.

The bridge project is estimated to cost more than $2 billion. The heavily congested, outdated span carries Interstates 75 and 71 between Ohio and Kentucky. Brown said the project is crucial for both commerce and public safety.

Brown said the costs and details of the bank would be negotiable, but he thinks members of Congress will hear during their break that finding ways to add jobs is paramount on people’s minds.
