Senator Brown testifies on laws designed to protect U.S. businesses
WFMJ – Some laws designed to protect American businesses look good on paper, but are difficult to enforce. That’s Senator Sherrod Brown’s take on laws that are supposed to stop foreign manufacturers from illegally dumping their products on American markets.
Brown testified Thursday before a Senate trade subcommittee.
Exporters like China have mislabeled and rerouted shipments to circumvent trade laws. “They’re not being enforced in part because customs officials are more focused on terrorism than enforcing these laws. I think the Chinese have figured out all kinds of ways around them and I think when we start shining a light on them, this is going to get better,” Brown said.
