Senator committed to attacking drug abuse

The Marietta Times – Families are shattered and communities fail to thrive when drug abuse runs rampant as your editorial board noted (Prescription drug abuse a real danger (Jan. 18). Ohioans don't have to sit by and watch the prescription drug abuse problem grow.

That's why my office has convened roundtables in southern Ohio with federal officials from the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Agency, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and state officials from the Attorney General's office, Department of Health, and Department of Jobs and Family Service to solve this problem. By doing so, we can better educate Ohioans about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. And save Ohio families while rebuilding our communities.

The drug addiction problems in southern Ohio have reached epidemic proportions, threatening the very fabric of the community. Just as the federal government reacted so seriously to the H1N1 outbreak, we should approach this problem with the same seriousness. I am committed to work with the people of southern Ohio and to partner with our federal agencies to root out this terrible problem.
