Senator Fighting for VA program

Beacon Journal – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, on Wednesday criticized a Republican budget proposal that would eliminate a grant program that provides housing vouchers for homeless veterans.

Brown, along with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, held a news conference in Washington to urge the continuation of the HUD-VASH program. It provides what are called Housing Choice Vouchers — rental assistance for homeless veterans, as well as case management and clinical services through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The HUD-VASH program has kept 750 Ohio veterans off the streets in the past three years, Brown said.
