Senators push for bus safety
Bucyrus Telegraph Forum – A fatal bus accident in Crawford County is the latest incident that could provide enough juice for Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, to pass the Motorcoach Enhanced Safety Act.
The bill, which calls for restraints on buses, reflects common sense to John Betts, father of David, one of five who died in a 2007 bus crash involving the Bluffton University baseball team.
“Let’s go,” Betts said. “It is just not that complicated. We understand the American Bus Association’s position of cost, but Greyhound has already began purchasing a number of buses with restraints.”
This winter, a passenger on the Mount Union College wrestling team bus was killed in a Crawford County crash.
