Shaker Heights incubator project sets June 1 opening

Sun News – The transformation of a vacant auto dealership is nearly complete for the June 1 grand opening of Shaker LaunchHouse, the city’s new business accelerator and public-private partnership.

Guest speaker at the grand opening will be U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who has introduced a bill in Congress to support business incubators such as this one, home to more than 50 early-stage companies.

“The goal is to aggressively fund the highest-promise startup companies and increase the potential for each startup’s economic impact on the region,” said LaunchHouse managing partner, Todd Goldstein.

“We’re looking to bring some of the supportive entrepreneurial environment and mindset of Silicon Valley to Northeast Ohio.”

Mayor Earl Leiken said there will also be an opportunity to tour the new facility, where many of the LaunchHouse portfolio companies and other emerging startups from Cleveland will demonstrate their innovative products and services.

But Shaker LaunchHouse officials have already been networking for months while renovations continued at the former Zalud Oldsmobile dealership, reconceived as a 23,000-square-foot, affordable workspace.
