U.S. urges China to curb currency manipulation

Dayton Business Journal – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, urged President Barack Obama administration officials Monday to press China to curb currency manipulation during a two day U.S.–China summit this week.

During the event, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are slated to meet with a Chinese delegation to discuss economic, trade and military policies that affect both nations.

“The Obama Administration has a unique opportunity during this meeting to urge Chinese officials to stop the unfair and unjust currency manipulation that threatens American manufacturing and eliminates American jobs,” Brown said in a news release. “The Chinese government has taken small steps to allow the yuan to appreciate, but it is not enough.”
