VA has few answers
at Senate hearing

Dayton Daily News – A lack of accountability emerged as a key theme at a U.S. Senate field hearing Tuesday on the infection control scandal at the Dayton VA Medical Center dental clinic.

The 80-minute hearing was held at the medical center at 4100 W. Third St. At its outset, Sen. Sherrod Brown told more than 100 people he wanted to restore the public’s confidence in the VA sytem, ensure accountability for those responsible for “these horrific wrongs,” and “instill transparency as we move forward to ensure no veteran is ever treated with such blatant disregard.”

“Most of us are aware of the inexcusable facts and unconscionable consequences behind what happened at the Dayton VA dental clinic,” said Brown, D-Ohio. “Over the course of 18 years, the clinic failed in its duty in far too many cases to serve our veterans.”

But Brown was unable to get a full accounting of how the infection-control lapses by Dr. Dwight Pemberton could go unaddressed by the Dayton VA for more than 18 years.
