Youngstown mayor named White House point man on auto industry jobs
Plain Dealer – Saying he helped turn around a city known for its industrial blight, President Barack Obama’s administration has tapped Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams to help communities damaged by automotive plant closures in recent years.
At an automotive supplier plant tour in Flint, Mich., Wednesday, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis introduced Williams as Obama’s pick to run the Office of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers, a new name for an office that has drawn some criticism in Washington for not doing enough to help.
Solis said many communities still need help and that Williams is the ideal choice for the job because of his experience in turning around his region.
