Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Jordan and Portman have vowed to fight cuts proposed for the C-27J program and push for a replacement mission if it is eliminated. Legislators have said the aircraft — a twin-engine, multipurpose cargo plane — has proven cost-effective and is important for national security.
“The C-27J is vital to Mansfield’s economy, to the men and women that make up the 179th Airlift Wing, and to our national security and domestic preparedness,” Brown said. “Eliminating this program could have serious consequences for all three.”
