Grants will help buy fire trucks for two townships

Morning Journal — Two township fire departments will get federal grants to help pay for new trucks.

The Carlisle Township Fire Department and the Florence Township Fire Departments will get money through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance for Firefighters Grant program.

The Carlisle Township Fire Department was awarded $15,143 for operations and safety and $240,350 to acquire a new vehicle, according to Sen. Sherrod Brown.

The Carlisle Township Fire Department will replace a 7,000-gallon water tank from 1997 with a new tanker truck, said Chief Kevin Dembiec.

“The tank is definitely showing its age,” he said. “It’s starting to have corrosion issues and whatnot from hauling the water.

“We’re definitely grateful to be able to get the truck because that’s been a concern to us in this day and age, the size of the truck, the condition of the truck,” Dembiec said.
