If Funding Not Renewed, Consequences Dire to Future Road Maintenance
NBC4 – COLUMBUS, Ohio — At the end of March, highway funding will expire. What does that mean to you?
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown said it will jeopardize jobs and highway projects. “We do know what delays to this Columbus Crossroads Project would do to this neighborhood,” said Brown.
While Congress manuveurs for position with the transportation bill set to expire March 31, Yellow Brick Pizza owner Faith Silver has plenty to worry about. “The completion of the highway project means a lot to our side of town,” Silver said.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is in charge of road maintenance and new construction in the state. It also is fully funded by gas taxes wrapped up in that transportation bill before Congress.
In the last few months, major new road construction projects have been delayed and in some cases for decades. The reason? Money, of course.
