Local news briefs – March 1

Akron Beacon Journal – The Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department has been awarded a $36,800 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon Lake, said in announcing the grant. “These funds ensure that firefighters in Cuyahoga Falls have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

Assistance to Firefighters Grants are awarded to fire departments and EMS operations that are not directly affiliated with a hospital in an effort to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public.
