More cases of poison dog treats continue to anger Ohio Senator Brown

Examiner – Hilliard, Ohio – United States Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) held a second press conference demanding the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) step up their investigation of alleged tainted chicken jerky treats. Senator Brown stated the story of poisoned pets has become too familiar and is calling for the FDA to take swift action.

Senator Brown has been a strong advocate for food safety and played an integral part in 2010 legislating for the FDA to authorize recalls for dangerous food products and the improvement of safe imported goods by using a traceability system.

Accompanying Senator Brown on Friday was Holly McCutcheon, who contacted the Senator after her four-year-old dog named Jack became sick from the the chicken jerky treats.

Since November, 2011, reports began to increase for dogs becoming ill or dying. The FDA has not issued any recalls stating there have been no brand names of products they can find that contain the suspected melamine, or diethylene glycol – chemicals used in plastics and resins.
