Officials hope highway will help economic development
Zanesville Times Recorder – McCONNELSVILLE — Morgan County and state officials hope a road project will help entice new businesses.
Local officials at the County Improvement Corp. have plans to build an entrepreneur and business park on CIC land along Monastery Road, which has been renamed Ohio 607 as construction begins to convert the township road into a state highway.
An official groundbreaking was Tuesday.
“This is a big day for District 10 and a big day for Morgan County,” T. Steve Williams, ODOT District 10 deputy said. “We will have a modern highway that will connect Ohio 60 to Ohio 78. That will provide the infrastructure for economic development, then the local officials will need to recruit the businesses.”

Phase I of the project will begin immediately to upgrade the middle section of Ohio 607 road from the gates of the ODOT garage to the Hawk missile armory. Phase II, to be completed in 2013, will upgrade Ohio 607 in both directions to Ohio 60 and Ohio 78.
“With the possibility of shale oil and gas fracking, these back roads will need upgrading, and the upgrades will benefit future economic development,” said Jeanne Wilson, Senior Appalachian Regional Representative for Sen. Sherrod Brown, who represented Brown at the ceremony.
