Ohio rally shows Obama ‘fired up, ready to go’, for November

The Examiner – Melody Robins, Pam Hunter and Paul Gomia made the trip from Middletown to the Schottenstein Arena on the campus of The Ohio State University Saturday to show how fired up and ready to go they are to work and vote for President Barack Obama, who accompanied by First Lady Michelle enthralled the approximately 14,000 people who showed up to cheer them on what was billed as the first of two official campaign rallies that marked the start of the 2012 presidential contest.

Robins said she’s ready to vote for the President again because he’s done everything he said he was going to do, plus he got Osama bin Laden and is fighting for women’s health issues.

Gomia, a veteran of 45 years in the health care industry, said the new health care law will help change the direction from continuing to degrade patients, shift priorities from patient care to corporate profits and providing inappropriate services. He was particularly happy with the reduction in pharmacy bills.

Hunter, on disability retirement, was upset with the vow by the President all-but nominated challenge Mitt Romney to eliminate Planned Parenthood, who she said has prevented more abortions than right to life advocates.

“Things aren’t perfect, but they’re getting better,” Gomia said.

Preceding remarks by First Lady Michelle and the President were short but rousing pep rally talks by former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, Ohio space hero John Glenn and Ohio’s senior U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown.

Sherrod Brown, elected in 2006 and running for a second term this year against a young Republican Ohio Treasurer, Josh Mandel, made his case for defending Middle Class jobs, especially in the auto industry. He touched on the more than five million dollars Mandel backers have spent recently on negative ads against him.

“When I go to Washington, I cannot be bought,” Brown said, adding, “My voice may not be the prettiest, but it will be the strongest in fighting for you.”
