Senator asks Obama to save C-27J planes
Mansfield News Journal – Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, sent a letter to the President Barack Obama today asking him to reject any proposals to eliminate the C-27J aircraft program until the ramifications have been fully studied.
Brown said elimination of the program or an additional procurement of planes would have a negative impact on national security and on bases, such as the one in Mansfield, currently using the C-27J.
Mansfield Air National Guard Base houses a wing of the twin-engine, multipurpose cargo planes.
“It has performed beyond expectations and this mission supports approximately 350 full-time jobs and 1,000 part-time jobs that could be at risk if the program is terminated,” Brown wrote President Barack Obama.
