Sharon post office renamed to honor Bolas

West Side Leader – A crowd huddled into the U.S. Post Office on Sharon Circle the morning of Jan. 19 to attend a dedication ceremony to designate the building as the Emil Bolas Post Office, joined by numerous officials.

A plaque unveiled at the ceremony is soon to be mounted on the outside of the building, stating “This building is named in honor of Emil Bolas by an Act of Congress, Public Law 111-355, January 4, 2011.”

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said he introduced the legislation with then-U.S. Rep. John Boccieri (D-District 16) to name the building after Bolas.

Bolas served for more than 35 years on the Sharon Township Board of Trustees, until he passed away in August 2008 from cancer. He also served 11 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals, according to township officials.

Brown noted he knew Bolas for more than 20 years. He remarked that Bolas knew literally every person who lived in Sharon, making the effort to stop in to visit shut-ins on cold winter days.

“We celebrate him today, honoring Emil and [his wife] Carolyn and the tradition of public service,” he said.
