The Morning Journal: Ohio Senator Brown, Portman call for protection against unfair imports
Ohio’s senators are supporting federal regulations to stop flooding the U.S. market with imported supplies of steel pipes.
U.S. senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman urged the U.S. Department of Commerce to maintain anti-dumping duties, or fees, and countervailing duties on Chinese steel pipe imports.
Brown, a Democrat, and Portman, a Republican, made a joint announcement in anticipation of a Commerce Department ruling expected this week on a petition about fees ordered on oil country tubular goods from China. The senators have supported legislation protecting American steelmakers from product dumping, the practice of selling the imported pipes or other imports for less than fair values.
