U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, on Wednesday announced that Eastgate Regional Council of Governments has received a $169,095 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

The federal funds will be used to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy for the region, according to a press release from Brown’s office.

“These federal resources will lay the groundwork for small businesses throughout Northeastern Ohio to have a better shot at creating new opportunities and jobs in small towns and rural areas,” Brown said. “Small businesses are essential to our economy, and through this award, local communities and their residents can lead the way in rural economic development.”
