As student loan debt surpasses $1 trillion, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown outlines a bill designed to help those with private student loans refinance to make them more affordable.

Through what’s called the “Student Loan Affordability Act,” the Senator also wants to freeze interest rates so they don’t double for Stafford Loans.

“So a low income kid from Salem, or a middle-class kid from Youngstown or Boardman can get a chance to go to college without huge debt,” Brown says.
