The Columbus Dispatch: Sen. Brown urges extension of child health care program
Meredith Mendoza is a working mother, but her employer provided health insurance isn’t enough to provide for her three children.
Through the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, her kids are able to get the coverage they need.
“The most important thing to me is that I’m able to access a primary care provider,” she said “They know my children, they know my family … I don’t have to spend a lot of time rehashing their history.”
The Children’s Health Insurance Program, known in Ohio as Healthy Start, provides health insurance to 10 million children across the country, and 130,000 Ohioans. The funding expires on Sept. 30, the end of the federal fiscal year.
