Women Deserve Equal Pay for Equal Work
The Equal Pay Act was signed into law by President John F. Kennedy 52 years ago this month, so you’d think by now women who do the same work as men would get paid the same wages — wouldn’t you?
Unfortunately, you’d be wrong. In Ohio, women earn 82.7 cents to the dollar compared to men. But that number varies from state-to-state:
Over the course of a year the wage gap adds up — in Ohio, women lose a collective $17 billion each year. That’s money that could have been invested back into our economy. And yet Republicans refuse to acknowledge the problem.
Women work every bit as hard as men. There’s no excuse that in 2015 women are still being paid less than men for doing the same jobs.
Thank you for standing with me to demand equal pay for equal work.
