Sherrod’s heated exchange with Secretary Carson
This morning, Sherrod called out Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Ben Carson for his proposed cuts to the HUD budget and his spending habits.
“Let them use vouchers!”

—
Team,
This morning, I had it out with Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Ben Carson over his proposed cuts to the HUD budget and his spending habits.
When I voted to confirm Secretary Carson, I had some hope he would do a decent job. It turns out I may have been wrong.
Carson’s policies would, among other things, charge renters making three, six, nine thousand dollars a year as much as $1,800 more for housing. In an age where tax cuts are already being handed to the richest one percent and increasing the deficit, I find these policies fairly remarkable—and entirely unacceptable.
HUD under Secretary Carson cares more about replacing a wobbly dining chair than improving unsafe, unsanitary, and unfair conditions in public housing.
I keep fighting like hell on behalf of struggling Americans—but I need your support to defend my seat from opponents who will blindly support this administration’s destructive agenda.
Can you chip in $5—or whatever you can—to help us build our ground game for my re-election campaign?
This administration’s actions make their priorities perfectly clear. The bills they pass, and the policies they push, help the rich do better and better while struggling Americans get left behind.
I won’t stand for it. We cannot let this seat be bought by the special interests and filled by someone who will rubber-stamp the Trump agenda.
Pitch in what you can right now.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
