COLUMBUS, OHIO – Today, Sherrod Brown’s campaign launched “Farmers for Sherrod,” a group supporting Sherrod Brown for his strong record of fighting for Ohio’s farmers and rural communities. Led by Chair Lewis Jones, a retired dairy farmer from Grove City, “Farmers for Sherrod Brown” will advise on agriculture issues and continue to build grassroots support for Sherrod among Ohio’s farming and rural communities.

“Senator Sherrod Brown is a critical advocate, ally and friend of Ohio’s farmers, and we need him in the Senate to continue fighting on their behalf,” said Jones. “Sherrod’s leadership is second to none when it comes to listening to Ohio farmers, hearing their concerns, and taking action. Whether it is preserving and strengthening crop protection programs, promoting local food and local jobs, or expanding broadband internet access to our rural communities, Sherrod is fighting for us. In this critical election year, we need to do everything we can to re-elect Sherrod Brown.”

Sherrod is Ohio’s first Senator to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in 40 years, and he is in a unique position to deliver for Ohio’s farmers and rural communities. He secured a number of provisions in the 2008 Farm Bill, notably the critical Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program that gave farmers more options to protect from drops in crop prices and yield in an uncertain economy. After Sherrod’s work on the 2008 Farm Bill, the National Corn Growers Association honored Sherrod with their prestigious “President’s Award.”
