Ohio’s largest physician-led organization endorses Sherrod Brown for re-election
COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) today endorsed Sherrod Brown for re-election to the U.S. Senate. OSMA is Ohio’s largest physician-led organization.
“We chose to endorse Senator Brown because of his long record of serving physicians and their patients,” said Marvin Rorick, MD, chair of OSMA’s Political Action Committee. “In his dozen years representing Ohio thus far, he has established himself as a sympathetic and effective supporter of health care access for all. Senator Brown is very experienced and has influential committee seniority, which is beneficial to Ohio.”
“Working with and learning from Ohio physicians are important aspects of my job in the Senate — whether we are working to improve Medicare so it works better for physicians, or giving doctors the ability to treat more patients struggling with addiction. That’s why I cherish my relationship with the Ohio State Medical Association and its members and leadership,” said Senator Sherrod Brown. “I’m honored to have OSMA’s support this year, and look forward to our continued work to support Ohio medical professionals.”
The OSMA is endorsing Sherrod for his leadershipon addressing the state’s opioid epidemic. Sherrod supports Medicaid expansion, which has allowed thousands of uninsured Ohioans to gain access to treatment for opioid addiction. He has also led efforts to expand recovery options, including access to medication-assisted treatment.
OSMA’s endorsement announcement also noted Brown’s support for legislation to reverse Medicare payment cuts, his work to address shortages in the pediatric field, and his work to increase access to low-cost generic prescriptions.
