Cleveland.com: Sherrod Brown nabs endorsement from Ohio doctors group
Sherrod has been endorsed by the Ohio State Medical Association, the largest professional group representing Ohio doctors in the state. The endorsement is especially notable given that OSMA’s support is never guaranteed for members of one party or another: In 2012, the group remained neutral, and in 2016, it endorsed Republican Sen. Rob Portman.
Whether he’s fighting for Medicaid expansion or working on legislation to help those suffering as a result of the opioid crisis, Sherrod has stood up time and time again to make sure Ohioans have the care they need.

Key points:
- The Ohio State Medical Association, a professional group representing Ohio doctors, has endorsed U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown for re-election.
- The group announced its endorsement Wednesday morning, citing Brown’s support for the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, his support for reversing cuts to Medicare payments and his advocacy in Congress in fighting the opioid crisis.
- The endorsement is notable for two reasons: One, it’s not a shoo-in—although the OSMA has endorsed Democrats in the past, it was neutral in Brown’s re-election bid in 2012, and it endorsed Republican Sen. Rob Portman over his Democratic opponent in 2016. Two, healthcare is expected to be a major issue this election.
