Cleveland Plain Dealer — In response to the very good news on the work of Gary Landreth, professor of neurosciences at Case Western Reserve University, and his progress in developing promising drugs to fight Alzheimer’s disease, I have to say that last week was a good one (“Drug’s effect on mice offers Alzheimer’s hope,” Friday).

Asociated Press — After three days of controversy, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast-cancer charity says it is reversing its decision to cut breast-screening grants to Planned Parenthood.

“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives,” a Komen statement said.

Portsmouth Daily Times – More than 10,000 Ohio seniors in Scioto, Lawrence, Adams, Pike, Jackson, Gallia, Ross, and Vinton Counties participated in a tele-town hall with U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) Tuesday morning. The call was the third in a series of tele-townhalls Brown will hold with constituents on a regional basis.

Fox19  – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced Monday that new federal resources will be awarded to Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Clifton for job training and workforce development targeted to unemployed workers.

Brown introduced an amendment to reauthorize the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program, which helps workers displaced by foreign trade train for new jobs.

Wall Street Journal — Roger Bate understates the problem of drugs being sold in America made predominantly with ingredients sourced in foreign countries (“Beware the Risks of Generic Drugs,” op-ed, July 6). Of all prescription drugs sold in America, not just generic ones, 80% of the active ingredients are manufactured outside the country, increasingly in countries like China which don’t employ the same safety standards as the U.S.

Columbus Dispatch — National drug czar Gil Kerlikowske brought welcome news for Virginia O’Keefe and the women and children at Amethyst today.

One of the three groups at the heart of President Barack Obama’s 2011 national drug strategy is women with dependent children. The others are veterans and college-age young people.
