Sherrod Brown Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week with Ohio Educators in Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH – Yesterday, during Teacher Appreciation Week, Sherrod joined Ohio educators in Columbus and gave remarks at the Ohio Education Association representative assembly meeting. Sherrod honored the work of public school employees and recommitted to ensuring all educators have the wages and benefits they deserve.

Earlier this week, Friends of Sherrod Brown launched “Educators for Sherrod,” a coalition of Ohio educators – from teachers to custodians to bus drivers.

“I’m honored to have Ohio educators by my side in this fight,” said Senator Sherrod Brown at the event. “Your work has dignity. Your work matters. And I will always fight for you and for your students, whether that’s cutting taxes to help teachers cover out-of-pocket classroom expenses, leading the fight to make home ownership affordable for educators, or fighting to secure full Social Security benefits for educators.”

“Throughout his career, Sherrod Brown has been an exemplary champion of public education and employee rights,” said School Counselor in Huber Heights City School District Jolene Young. “Sherrod has a history of standing with public educators and fighting for educators’ rights because he understands the important work we do for our students and our communities. Sherrod has stood with educators to fight for fair contracts, propose bills to improve housing affordability for educators, and fight for educators’ retirement security. A vote for Sherrod Brown is a vote for someone who has and will continue to fight for educators, public employees, and working people across the country.”

Sherrod has always fought for Ohio educators and the Dignity of Work to make sure hard work pays off for everyone:

  • Sherrod introduced the Educators Expense Deduction Modernization Act to quadruple the tax deductions teachers can use for school expenses to put more money back in their pockets.
  • Sherrod introduced the Social Security Fairness Act to secure full Social Security benefits for teachers, first responders, and other public sector workers.
  • Sherrod is fighting to expand high-speed internet access for students and families across Ohio.
